On March 3rd 2020, founding members of the International Pencak Silat Federation (PERSILAT) conducted a meeting to develop new rules regarding sport Silat. Leaders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei discussed rules and systems to be used as well as new ranking systems, with the goal to develop better competitions for Pencak Silat. The leaders that spearheaded these changes hope that through these new rules, more people will recognize and appreciate the greatness of Silat.
Some of these new moves and techniques are as follows:
- Superman Punch
- Pull and punch
- Punch back of the vest
- Backfist smack to the back
- Back hand smack
- Spinning back hand smack
- Elbow to the vest
- Top down elbow to the vest
- 360 elbow to the vest
- Jumping elbow to the vest
- Elbow to the back of the vest
- Top down elbow to back of vest
- Standing armbar (Verbal or tapping (sign of giving up) resulting in TKO
- Double front sweep
- Kicking to chest after sweeping to get 2 points for kick.
- Back sweep
- Thigh kicks (must be followed by another kick)
- Kicking to from back of the knee (calf)
- Double horse kick
- Various types of scissors takedowns
- Drop technique then sweeping
- Pull vest and dropping technique
- Pull hand and dropping technique
- Any dropping technique allowed within 5 seconds
- Takedown techniques by hugging the opponent and flipping from hip
