Instructor Kai has been practicing the art of Pencak Silat Panglipur under Kang Cecep Rahman since 2012. Kai became the first representative/instructor in Pencak Silat Panglipur Galih directly under Kang Cecep in the United States during his 2016 trip to Indonesia. He has spent months in Garut, Indonesia at Kang Cecep’s home. It was there at the Padepokan Kasundan where he refined his skills, mindset and body. Kai’s interests are in the traditional methods and modern integration of martial arts, meditation, and movement. He makes regular trips to S.E. Asia to further immerse himself in the culture, philosophy and healing arts and continue to update his combat science.

The Panglipur USA team consists of Kai Lewis in TX, Chris Robinson, Carol Marley in VA and Nicholas Portillo in TN. The Panglipur USA team performs demos at cultural events, local festivals, conducts martial art seminars and host tournaments nationally.

Kai has coached Pencak Silat students who have won medals at local and national open martial arts tournaments and stickfighting gatherings. He also holds instructor ranks in: a Filipino weapons system, Chinese Internal martial arts, and has completed a Hatha Yoga teacher training program. In addition, he has done extensive training hours in healing modalities based off Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and modern myo-fascial release therapy.

Kai currently teaches Silat, Yoga and Tai Chi privately, through Houston Martial Arts Academy, and as an adjunct professor at Rice University. His instructor experience includes teaching at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital as part of the Integrative Medicine Center team, Baylor College of Medicine and other institutes sharing the health benefits of these arts with cancer patients, caregivers, doctors and staff. He has participated as head instructor for several clinical trials with mind-body systems, showing the efficacy of these modalities in our modern world to help with the impact and recovery of stress, illness and disease.
