Sakina Ahmad won the USA’s first gold medal at an international Pencak Silat tournament at the 2018 Belgium Open tournament, and again at the 2018 Singapore Open tournament. Sakina began training Pencak Silat under the tutelage of her father, Abdul-Malik Ahmad, when she was 5 years old. For over a decade, she has been training in Silat and received her Black Belt with Silat Institute of VA in 2017. During this time, she has won numerous tournaments including gold at the 2018 Belgium open and gold at the 2018 Singapore open in Tanding. She continues to contribute to the UPSF by training with the US team and also teaching regularly at the Silat Institute of Virginia.
