Kak Abdul-Malik has been practicing Pencak Silat for over 25 years since he was 15 years old. He was the founder of the Pencak Silat Virginia branch in 1999 and has taught hundreds of students. A. Malik studied Silat in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and competed internationally in martial arts competitions and has won first place in many tournaments. A. Malik’s specialty is sparring and regularly trains and spars with Silat fighters in Pencak Silat as well as practitioners in other styles. He is the founder and head instructor of the Silat Institute based out of Northern Virginia.
A. Malik is currently the head coach for the USA Pencak Silat Federation national team. He is also a internationally certified Wasit / Jury (referee/Judge) and has was a judge at three Pencak Silat world championships. He was also the first American to compete at a World Pencak Silat Championships. He holds a 7th degree black belt in Pencak Silat (Red belt 2 stripes) He also trains in other martial arts and holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu and a green belt in Judo. He also holds an undefeated record in his brief time in MMA (mixed martial arts).

- 2020 – Udemy Instructor for Training for Tanding – Silat Sparring course with over 400 registered students
- 2020 2nd Place – Atlanta Winter International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship (Purple Belt, Masters 3)
- 2020 – WCMAO Teachers, Instructors and Mentors Award.
- 2020 Second Place – World Cup Martial Arts Championships (Black Belt Forms)
- 2018 Wasit / Jury at 18th World Pencak Silat Championships in Singapore
- 2018 First Place – ERKC Championships (Black Belt Forms)
- 2018 First Place – World Hapmudo Tournament (Black Belt forms)
- 2017 Silver Metal – Belgium Open Pencak Silat tournament (Tanding/Sparring)
- 2017 First Place – ERKC Championships (Black belt forms)
